REQUIREMENTS & DEADLINES
For voters registered in Illinois:
- Any registered voter in Illinois may vote by mail without needing to provide a reason
- The deadline to request a mail ballot is 5 days before the election (10/31), but your ballot may not get to you in time so it's better to request early
- The deadline to mail your ballot is Election Day (11/5). To be counted, your ballot must be postmarked (but not necessarily received) on Election Day.
For voter registered in a different state:
- Select your state from the dropdown menu on the NASS Absentee & Early Voting website to find the requirements for your state.
- Request requirements vary state to state. 17 states require a reason or excuse to request a mail-in ballot, while the rest do not.
- Deadlines vary state to state. The most restrictive states require ballots to be received on a day before Election Day, while the most permissive will count ballots postmarked on Election day.
