Course textbooks, including required reading titles, are purchased and placed on reserve in the Library whenever available. Electronic versions, when available from the publisher, will be prioritized over print versions. Other texts and supporting materials may also be placed on reserve by faculty request. Course reserves may be borrowed only by current Lake Forest College students and faculty.
Faculty wishing to request items be put on reserve should consult the course reserves section of the faculty guide.
E-Reserves
To access:
- E-books can be accessed via single sign on. Some ebook providers limit users at any one time. If you are unable to access a particular title, try again later. Physical textbooks and other print reserves circulate for 2 hours and are only to be used in the library during open hours.
Physical Items
To access:
- At the circulation desk, present your Lake Forest College ID or other photo ID to use print reserves.
- Items are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Policies:
- Due to high demand and limited availability, patrons are restricted to borrowing two reserve items at one time(e.g. books, DVDs, CDs, readings, and study rooms).
- Reserves are typically loaned for 2 hours, but occasionally may be checked out for 1-3 days—noted on the item.
- Extensions of a 2-hour loan period can be made for viewing a single DVD or video with a running time greater than 120 minutes.
- Items on reserve for less than 1 full day may not be used outside of the library.
- Patrons who remove reserve material from the library without prior permission of the instructor and the Head of Circulation (or other non-student staff member) will be fined and may have their library accounts blocked until the item is returned.
- An instructor who has placed an item on reserve may borrow that item through the end of the semester.
- If more than one instructor places the same item on reserve, the loan period defaults to 2-hours for all borrowers.
- Texts owned by the library and listed on the bookstore's textbook list are placed on reserve unless faculty have requested otherwise.
- Texts not listed on the bookstore website are not placed on reserve unless faculty notify the library of additional texts.
- Permanent Reserves are high demand items with a 2 hour loan period.
