How Does Primo Searching Work?

Primo is a single search tool, which means you can use it to find not only physical items (like books and DVDs), but also digital items such as Ebooks, articles, journals, online videos, and more. From Primo, you can also request material from other I-Share libraries and Interlibrary Loan/Tipasa. You can also search course reserves.

When you enter your search in Primo, you will see different options, also called search scopes.

What am I searching?

  • Quick Search: combines the Donnelley and Lee Library catalog and the Articles and More search. It will retrieve articles, books, Ebooks, videos, digital collections, and more.
  • Library Catalog: searches books, Ebooks, videos, and digital collections available at the Donnelley and Lee Library. This search excludes articles.
  • All I-Share Libraries: searches the Donnelley and Lee Library as well as all I-Share libraries. You may request books from I-Share and they will be delivered to campus for check-out.
  • Articles and More: searches the many databases and online resources the library subscribes to. You will find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles, book reviews, Ebooks, videos, and more.
  • Course Reserves: searches what is on reserve for your course. You may search by course name, instructor, course code, or department.

There are times when it may be better to go directly to a database and search there. Doing that will let you take advantage of some of that database's features and you will have better search results.

Some databases best searched directly (instead of through Primo):
