Visitor Guidelines

The Donnelley and Lee Library is open to the public. However, those who are not current Lake Forest College students, faculty, or staff have some limitations on access to the library and its services, outlined below.

  • Anyone may use the Donnelley and Lee Library at Lake Forest College for study, research, and in-library use of the general collections, databases, magazines and journals, government documents collection (including electronic government documents and public workstations), and special collections and archives.
  • Public patrons from the communities of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff may obtain a library account to check out books. A driver’s license with a current Lake Forest or Lake Bluff address is needed. A library card from the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff library is acceptable in place of a driver’s license along with a current email address.
  • Some library tools and databases (or some features within certain databases) may be used only by Lake Forest College affiliated patrons due to licensing restrictions.
  • Only Lake Forest College students, faculty, and staff may use the second floor computer labs and classrooms.
  • All children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  • During periods of high use (such as during midterm and final exams), all study spaces, carrels, workstations, and seats are reserved for use by Lake Forest College students, faculty, and staff only.  Unaffiliated users may be asked to leave during such times.
  • Printing from Reference Area workstations is available at $0.05 per page for non-Lake Forest College affiliated patrons.
  • The library has two high-speed (free) scanning stations in the reference area on the main floor that can produce black and white, grayscale, or color images. During periods of high use (when students, faculty, and/or staff are waiting to use the scanner), members of the public may be asked to use scanners at a later time.
  • Visitors to the library must leave the building when the library closes. Only Lake Forest College students, faculty, and staff are permitted in the 24-hour space after closing.
  • We encourage visitors to search the library’s catalog, or to call the Reference Desk at 847-735-5074 before visiting the library.
  • Please Note: The library reserves the right to indefinitely suspend borrowing privileges for courtesy patrons.
