Library Policies & Privileges

Books

  • Unlimited borrowing for books and government documents

  • Lake Forest & Lake Bluff patrons may not borrow course reserve books or materials from the curriculum collection

Media

DVDs & Videos

  • Up to 2 DVDs or videos total
  • 1 week loan period
  • No renewals
  • Overdue fine of $1.00 per day per item (up to $10 per item) with 24 hr grace period
  • Lost item status and fines are added after items are 10 days overdue; replacement fines will be waived upon return of item(s).
  • Overdue fines will not be waived.

CDs

  • Up to 4 CDs at 1 time
  • Loan period of 2 hours; in-library use only
  • Students must leave an ID at the desk when borrowing CDs.

DVDs, CDs, & Videos

  • Unlimited borrowing for CDs, DVDs, and videos
  • 1 month loan period
  • 2 renewals
  • No daily overdue fines
  • Lost item status and fines are added after items are 29 days overdue; replacement fines will be waived upon return of item(s), provided they are in good (undamaged) condition.
  • Reserve items may be borrowed with permission of all applicable instructors.

DVDs, CDs, & Videos

  • The Library does not loan CDs, DVDs, or videos to patrons who are not current students, faculty, or staff.

Databases & E-Resources

Students have access to all library databases and e-resources through the SSO login associated with their college email.

Faculty and staff have access to all library databases and e-resources through the SSO login associated with their college email.

Alumni may use library databases on-site, but do not retain logins for remote access.

Some library tools and databases (or some features within certain databases) may be used only by Lake Forest College affiliated patrons due to licensing restrictions. Guests may access resources that do not require a Lake Forest College password. 

Equipment

The following supplies are available for Students, Faculty, and Staff to check out for a 2-hour period:

  • headphones
  • phone chargers (iphone and android)
  • laptop chargers (Mac and PC)
  • DVD/Blueray players (including players for foreign DVDs)
  • protractors
  • dry erase markers
  • internet cables

Cameras

Students enrolled in specific courses are eligible to check out cameras and related equipment for 24 hours at a time or for the weekend if requested on a Friday. Students' names must be on a list submitted to the library by the faculty teaching the courses.

  • Cameras and camera equipment must be requested 1 day in advance of when you need the equipment or the equipment. We will not hold requested for longer than 1 day.
  • Cameras and camera equipment can be picked up and returned at the main library desk only between 9:00am and 4:00pm Monday - Friday.
  • Students who do not return cameras or camera equipment on time will be issued a warning. If the camera or camera equipment is not returned after the warning, the student will permanently lose the privilege of borrowing cameras or camera equipment.

Beach Passes

Parking passes to access the Lake Forest Beach are available to students, faculty, and staff for checkout at the Circulation Desk. Passes are first come, first served. Please ask at the desk for availability.

If passes aren't available:

  • Lake Forest College students, faculty, and staff may access the beach by foot by presenting a College ID.

Non-Circulating Materials

The following do not circulate to any patron group:

  • periodicals and bound journals
  • selected reference materials
  • microfilm
  • archives and special collections materials
