INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS & NON-CITIZENS

Civic Engagement as a Non-Voter

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AS A NON-VOTER

While international students cannot vote in the upcoming elections, you can participate in other ways! The stakes of US elections can feel very personal to students studying here. Here are a few ideas for ways you can participate this election season.

  • Encourage your friends to vote. College students have busy schedules so it's important to make a plan to vote. Remind your friends how important it is that they exercise their right to have an impact on who holds public office.
  • Advocate for issues you find important. Make your voice heard about topics that affect you or that you are passionate about. Find organizations on or off campus that allow the opportunity for activism.
  • Educate yourself and others. Learn about the way the US electoral system works, including the unique role that primary elections play in the political process. Use library resources to gain access to news about candidates and issues. Vet news sources and call out mis/disinformation where you see it.
  • Attend campus events. Find opportunities to engage on-campus regarding political parties, voter registration, or other election-related events. Information about campus events hosted by the Politics & International Relations department can be found here.
